遅ればせながら事務所のVMware ESXi 5.1 Update 1を5.5にアップグレードしました
実際の作業は年末年始の休暇中に行いましたが

アップグレードの方法として上記サイトに幾つかありますが、今回は一番簡単そうなesxcliコマンドで行うことにしました
ちなみにesxcli (Command-line interface)は5.1からのアップグレードのみ対応です

- VMのシャットダウン
- メンテナンスモード
- shell logon
- 提供プロファイルの確認
- アップデート
- upsmonをアンインストール
- アップデート
- reboot
VMware vSphere ClientからログインしてVmware ESXi 5.1ホスト上で稼働しているVMをすべてシャットダウンします
ESXi 5.1ホストをメンテナンスモードに移行します
Vmware ESXi 5.1ホストにsshか、あるいはConsole shellにログインします
現在のバージョンはvmwareコマンドで確認できます

ところがエラーになってしまいました
実は電源管理のためにupsmonをインストールしていたのですが、これが拡張性ルールチェックに違反してるとかなんとか…

upsmonのacceptance levelはcommunityレベルですがacceptance levelがpartnerでないとアップデートモジュールを受け入れられないようです
現在のacceptance levelは

取り敢えずupsmonをアンインストールすることにしました

ESXi hostを再起動します。再起動後にメンテナンスモードを終了して各VMを起動、動作確認を行います
バージョンを確認すると無事にアップグレードできていました
